If you're not using outlook 2013. Please download the Outlook Connector.
With Microsoft Outlook Hotmail Connector 32-bit, you can use Microsoft Office Outlook 2003, Microsoft Office Outlook 2007 or Microsoft Office Outlook 2010 to access and manage your Microsoft Windows Live Hotmail or Microsoft Office Live Mail accounts, including e-mail messages

If it's not connecting as Exchange account, here are the settings to use.
Please use incoming and outgoing server as zmail.amer.net
IMAP port 993 with ssl
pop3 port 995 with ssl

and smtp port 587 with TLS
and authentication on
